CRPD National Monitoring Body
National monitoring body for the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities
Since March 2009, the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities is legally binding for Germany. Hence the state shall comply with its provisions and implement them. The aim is to fully realize human rights of persons with disabilities in Germany.
The German Institute for Human Rights has been mandated to assume the function of an independent national body to monitor the implementation of the treaty norms in Germany. The national monitoring body shall also promote and protect the rights enshrined in the Convention (see article 33 (2) of the Convention).
The CRPD National Monitoring Body is currently being developed. Its tasks include
• Policy advice
• Practice-oriented research
• Events
• Public relations
• Provision of information (library)
The CRPD National Monitoring Body is not mandated to handle complaints or provide legal advice. Requests on individual cases can not be dealt with.
